When we picture the ancient Aegean, it’s easy to focus on the places we know best: Athens, Crete, and Mycenae. But scattered across those blue waters are the Cyclades, a collection of islands with a story that goes back thousands of years before classical Greece. The people who lived there were skilled sailors, traders, artists, and craftsmen, yet so much about their world remains a mystery. Who were they? What did their rituals mean? And why did they create those haunting marble figures we still recognize today? In this episode, we’re heading into the heart of the Cyclades to explore what archaeologists have uncovered and, perhaps more importantly, what they still can’t explain.
