How can a man tutored by a philosopher, rise to shed so much blood? Is it possible that after seeing blood in the beginning, a man can become immune to its sight and get emboldened? 50000 Macedonians against 500000 Persians comes to a ratio of 1:10. One can also become blood-crazy. Can a psychiatrist explain this mental process?

Very interesting questions. While in today’s world all of that wouldn’t necessarily mesh together, within the context of the ancient world, and at the heels of the Persian takeover of the known world (and the Peloponnesian wars), I’d imagine that many were desensitized to blood shed.
