So, there has been a lot going on in my personal life as of late. Enough so that it impacted my ability to push updates to this Substack. But first of all, I am here to say that I have not abandoned Digging Up The Past. Far from it.
Site Update
Now, due to recent situations and complications with the work I do to make a living, I needed to make the difficult decision to step away from Ancient Origins. That means that moving forward, Digging Up The Past will not be partnered up with Ancient Origins. You will notice a change in some of the branding of the site, as I continue to find what needs to be replaced. This also means that a few articles in the Subscriber section will also disappear soon.
Speaking of the Subscriber section, I have disabled the paid subscription tier. I am not entirely sure when I will re-enable it again but for now and until a few things get sorted out, it will remain disabled. Existing subscribers will still be able to access the Subscriber-only content. And I will continue to push new Subscriber-only content for existing subscribers to access.
Podcast Restarting
No need to worry. I know it has been some time since I have done a new episode but the podcast is coming back. The biggest challenge for the podcast has always been finding guests (it is a lot more difficult than one would think). Believe it or not, the majority of scholars who I have approached either turn me down or do not reply to my invites at all. And that is okay. It makes me appreciate those who do participate even more.
The second challenge is the editing process. It takes SO long to edit each episode and nowadays, with my obligations to work (and my family), time has been extremely hard to find. Either way, I will be reaching out to new guests soon.
New Bible History Substack
If you have been paying attention to my podcast then you would know that I enjoy talking about Biblical history; that is, the history surrounding the Bible (technically, the Old Testament). And it recently dawned on me that I have 25+ years of [personal] Biblical research that has been collecting dust. Some of it had been published 17 years ago while the rest continues to sit there.
And if you have been paying attention to my podcast, you would also know that I am autistic and I tend to focus on specific details of various topics and am very “black and white” when it comes to processing information, including evidence which is why I always try to offer unbiased data to my audience regardless of the topic.
Anyway, I created a “sister Substack” to this one called Digging Up The Bible. It is not a news site and you will not find news updates unless I provide commentary on recent discoveries.
Is there more to the Biblical texts than what we are taught in church or the synagogue? How did the text come together? Who wrote them? When and Why? What was their world like and what motivated them? Did the Biblical events actually occur and can archaeology corroborate them?
In Digging Up The Bible, we will answer these questions and many more. Context is always important. Learn the history behind the Holy books and use that history in your journey to strengthen your beliefs.
Digging Up The Bible is your source for unbiased Biblical research. Society has unconsciously rewritten the Bible to fit modern thinking and in doing so we have removed context and in turn, proper interpretation of the texts. I wanted to know what the ancient writers believed when they first put ink to paper (or papyrus or animal skin or even stone). In the process, I looked at the archaeology, the geography / geology / climate of the time, the politics and external influences and more. When piecing it all together, we get a completely different picture than what we are taught by our traditional spiritual leaders. And I want to share my two plus decades worth of discoveries with you.
So, if this is a topic that interests you, please do not hesitate to subscribe!
And more…
Finally, back in December, I was a guest on Fade to Black (with Jimmy Church) talking about all sorts of things related to ancient history and mysteries. It was a very fun episode, so be sure to check it out.
Also, another one from late last year. Be sure to check out my fun conversation with Joi Brooks on Email and Coffee where we discuss the end of the Late Bronze Age:
